hello washi card

Our new challenge at The Paper Girls is to use washi tape.

I used 5 different rolls to create my panel on this black card. Then I stamped Whispy Prairie in white.

I cut the sentiment with this die and created an ombre on it with an ink blending tool.

Over at The Paper Girls, Michele has challenged us to use up our scraps.

Here is the card I came up with:

I only let myself use scrapsthat were already out on my desk.

I had stamped and colored the flower for a previous card but it was off-center and I had to re-stamp it. But "the mistake" was still on my desk so I trimmed it a bit and added black splatter.

The sentiment was from a stamp set sitting on my desk. I had this yellow card base I had cut for another card but ended up not liking the color. So I used it for this. I just added some leftover patterned paper from my desk as well as black washi tape.

A quick card for the current challenge at The Paper Girls. We're making projects for the ladies. So I made this feminine card using pink, flowers, pleated ribbon and watercoloring.

I'm hosting challenge #101 over at The Paper Girls. It's a mixed media challenge. Here's the card I created:

On my background I collaged a dictionary page and shaded the edges with a charcoal pencil. Flicked some black india ink, and dripped some yellow spray stain. Stamped several flowers. Used a stencil to apply translucent embossing paste and Perfect Pearls. I distressed the edges and added aqua gelato.

Then for the main image, I stamped this flower in distress ink and then painted it with a waterbrush. Sentiment is from this kit.

hello sunshine

Our current challenge at The Paper Girls is SUNSHINE.

I created this card.

I blended yellow distress inks on a tag and then used Tim Holtz's Rays stencil with colored modeling paste. I layered it over several papers and a fussy-cut feather from the Unity stamp set Beautiful is Never Perfect.

The sentiment from Jar of Mixed Sentiments was stamped on deli paper and stapled to the tag.

And that's how this card was born.

hello autumn tag

I'm the current host over at The Paper Girls and we are using STAMPS!

Tim Holtz released his November tag for 12 tags of 2015 and I decided to combine the two challenges to make this tag:

For the background I used an embossing folder as a "stamp" by brayering Distress Paint on the raised side and stamping it down onto the tag. Then spritzed some Distress Stains.

 I stamped and then watercolored the pumpkin using Distress Inks and a waterbrush. And then spritzed using a marker spritzer and brown marker. Then a die-cut cork word, metal photo corner and ribbon and it was done! 

Embossing folder is "Woven" from Lifestyle Crafts.

The tree is from "leaves4fall" by Stamps of Life.

The pumpkin is a really old Imaginisce stamp.

The word Autumn and the leaf are from "Autumn Leaves" by Crafters Companion.

Farmers Market pop-up card

The current challenge over at The Paper Girls is "Food".

I created a pop-up card for my in-laws. They are big gardeners so I wanted this to look like a big bountiful basket of produce. And, yes, I realize some of the veggies are out of scale with the others. Oh well!

I started with a pop-up card from svgcuts.com (sorry, don't remember which one) for the crate and made it fit what I needed. The veggies are from this cut file and are so fun to make.

After assembling the veggies, I added a little shading with my chalks.

And this card folds flat for easy mailing too!

baby jack jack layout

The current challenge at The Paper Girls is Superheroes!

I've had these photos of my little one dressed as baby Jack Jack from The Incredibles that I've been wanting to scrap for years.

I used a sunray stencil to ink a yellow starburst onto my background. Matted my photos in black. Added title with stickers. Simple journaling card. And the only embellishment is the mask that went with his costume!

I don't know why it took me so long to do this.

happy new baby

Our current challenge over at The Paper Girls is all about babies! So I whipped up this card since I suddenly know several preggos and I know I will need this card eventually.

 I'm in the middle of a craft room reorganization and I found these Authentique scraps. I'm not sure what project they were left over from but they were so cute I just had to put them on a baby card. Stamps are from Unity; clothesline is from Small Things Matter but I'm not sure what kit the sentiment is from.

I'm going to make up a few more of these in several colors to have on hand. :)

Dr. Who-themed gifts

My son is such big Dr. Who fan so I couldn't help but make a couple projects for his birthday last week! 

First was a Doctor-inspired birthday card. I made a similar card at my monthly card class so I used it as a pattern to make one that looked very Dr. Who like. You can't see it too well but I took brown cardstock and stamped a tweed-like stamp on it for texture. 

Then I took a plain black journal I found and turned it into this TARDIS journal just like River Song carries. My son has been journaling in it every day since I gave it to him!

I designed a cut file and used lots of blue paint! I'll be making a second journal for my other son so stay tuned for a quick tutorial in a few days.

Another fun gift to include would be one of these pens-turned-sonic screwdrivers. 

Cheap pens + oven-bake clay= sonic screwdrivers!

I found this craft on Pinterest (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/223913412700147905/) 

We've actually made very many of these and I was going to add some to my photo but ours are so heavily used that they are just too dirty for photos! It is an easy, inexpensive and kid-friendly craft. Follow her directions and use the pens she suggests and you'll have some very happy whovian kiddos. Even if you are not Dr. Who fans you can still make Harry Potter wands or Star Wars light sabers maybe!

It's birthday season in my household.  3/5 of my family members have a March birthday. The other 2 are in April and May. Parties are everywhere right now! We threw my husband a Sharknado party as a joke and now we're planning a Dr. Who party for my oldest this week :)

My youngest just turned 5 and wanted a Captain America party. We totally threw this together last minute and kept it simple! I used my circle dies to make shield invitation cards and matching goody bags. I made a coordinating banner and printed (and cut) some coloring sheets for kids to decorate their own shields.

Here are my DIY decor elements:

Here was our tablescape with our Avengers-themed food:

Thor's hammer sausage and cheese snacks (this was the kids' FAVORITE!):

Star and shield-shaped sandwiches:

Captain America punch. Juice and Blue Gatorade (which turns out kids think is gross):

Green and Purple Hulk grapes, Red and Yellow Iron Man tomatoes, and strawberries just because they were red and we like them!

Coloring shields which we glued on to an inverted red paper plate with a  duct tape handle:

Shake it!

We are making shaker cards over at The Paper Girls Challenge blog. Since my Cricut stopped working I was limited to the dies I had on hand. I've discovered I "need" more dies :)  

I decided to use some circle dies and turn them into balloons. And I used this fun stamp set to make the balloon strings.

The balloons are filled with several kinds of pink and white fine and chunk glitters.

 For the sentiment I used two different pink inks to create an ombre look.

Happy Anniversary

I've got a little anniversary card today for the current Paper Girls challenge. Nevermind the weird photo. It's dark and I was using my camera light. I plan to replace it with a better one if the sun comes out tomorrow. I say "if" because you just never know up here in the Pacific Northwest. sigh.

Anyway.
I stamped this pretty little vase trio from a Unity set onto watercolor paper. Painted it with various purple and blue watercolors (inspired by Unity's challenge). I matted it onto this beautiful purple cardstock. Some teal twine and a simple sentiment later and it was done.

hello...

Hi folks! I finally have something to blog. I have actually made a few things in the last two months but just haven't found the time to blog. Hopefully I'll be able tocatch up soon. I made this card for our challenge over at The Paper Girls which is to use cork.

I pulled out Crate Paper's Story Teller line. This is still one of my favorite lines. Such great patterns and colors. I die-cut the sentiment from cork paper and punched out the hearts from the same paper too.

Sorry for the grey photo. It's hard to photograph projects here in the Pacific Northwest. It really is as grey and cloudy as you've heard it is! Oh well. We have great summers at least! If any of you reading this have a light box/tent to recommend I'd love to know what you use.

I hope you can find some time to come play with our challenge and win a great prize.

1-year-old layout

I just found this photo of my niece in my craft room. Oh my goodness she was a cutie.

 I had to scrap it right away.

 I created a background for the photo using texture paste and a stencil. After it was dry I rubbed some gold gelato on it. I sprinkled some olive paint across the page. Punched a bunch of butterflies and popped them with foam. Added an Epiphany Crafts epoxy heart. And finally hung some chipboard from some twine.

I need to find more photos of her and scrap them too. It was fun making something so girly (which I rarely do since I have 3 boys)!
